You cannot hide from politics

Ah yes. It seems that nowadays there is nowhere you can go and nothing you can do that hasnt become political. One could take a walk in the woods and a chipmunk would probably pop out of the brush and accuse you of some political misdeed. Today I was auctioning off a camera on E-bay. One of the many options on E-bay is the choice you have as to where you will ship said item. Some folks will ship worldwide. I chose to only ship in the US as the red tape for shipping to other countries can be downright annoying and I just didnt want to deal with it. That being said, as you may or may not know, buyers can e-mail you a question about the item you are selling. Here is a question I got from one of our neighbors to the north in Canada.

"Why are you only shipping within the US? I'd really like to bid on this, and I live literally a 15minute drive from the border. I don't understand American xenophobia."

Now, because I dont wish to ship to other countries, I along with many other Americans are "xenophobic". Breathtaking. Simply breathtaking. I wont even get into his misunderstanding of the word he accuses me of. Yes, even E-bay is not safe from politics and anti-American blather.

Recently I found a company that I was planning on buying from for my business called American Apparell. One of the pluses of the company for me was the fact that their products are made in the USA. Sounded good until I got to their website. The first thing I saw was more softcore pornography then anything else. My first turn off. But the thing that really nailed the coffin shut for me was the stand they take on illegal immigration. These guys are so left wing that they actually have an entire section of their site dedicated to open border madness called "legalize LA". Once again, you cannot hide from politics. Here is a business created for profit injecting large amounts of politics into its whole raison d'etre. They are so confident that everyone feels the same as they do that alienating potential clients doesnt seem to bother them. I find this incredible. Businesses are now political. And the ones who shy away from politics even now feel that they have to openly support political causes (global warming, immigration, Darfur, etc) to remain viable. Granted, companies have always given to charities and such for good public relations. But it seems to me that ever since Jesse Jackson and the other shakedown artists started plying there trade, more and more businesses are stepping up the PC politics. Between a hurt economy, political correctness and a possible four years of an active Socialist president, congress and senate I dont see politics disappearing from the private realm. The personal has now officially become political.

For a while after the Mayor of San Francisco started performing gay marriages, my company offered a special to gay newlyweds. As far as I know, no one ever took us up on it, as we probably have very few gay clients, and none of them got married recently. So all we did is insult our traditionalist clients, which we do have. I never said anything about it, it's a lost cause around here.

Hi latte,
Its a good thing that you didnt say anything. You probably would have been fired and strung up, in that order. The irony in regards to these companies is that they are (in essence) forcing myself and others to take our business out of the country to the Chinese, Indians or whoever. But then again I am in the minority. Most people would just shrug and say it is just a sign of the times and send them a check.

As you well know, it is hard enough living in a leftist community where you must check everything you say lest you are spoiling for a fight. Now you cant even do business without being bombarded with propaganda. Astounding.

On a side note. Do you remember the "United Colors of Benneton" add campaign in the 80s? As far as I can remember that was one of the first "big" companies to venture into the foray of PC advertising.
